WANDERER: A TRAVEL PLANNING APP

Wander without wondering, and enjoy your trip!

The Wanderer App takes users through the step-by-step process of planning their trip, finding activities, and obtaining information to help them have the best trip possible.

MY ROLE

UX Designer (Solo Project)

UI/UX Bootcamp Project

This was my first UX project and I learned so much from the process. I was responsible for the entirety of this project, beginning with research and creation of the User Persona, through the Ideation and Design stages, and finishing with a Low-Fi Clickable Prototype.

Tools Used: Figma, Miro, InVision, Google Workspace, & Otter Transcript

USER RESEARCH

Research Plan & Findings

My main objective when performing the first User Interviews was to obtain information about user experiences with travel and any concerns or problems that they may have experienced. I used the feedback I received as inspiration while brainstorming and designing the features of the app. Next, I organized this information into an affinity diagram and empathy map and used it to create a User Persona.

Ideation

Creating a Journey

Once I had defined my Problem Statement and made a Value Proposition, I created a User Scenario that best fit the User Persona. To bring this scenario to life, I drew up some Storyboards to visually express this journey

Karina and her Best Friend, Sarah, have decided to go on a trip. They want to go to Italy and decide Rome will be their first stop.

Using the Wanderer App! They plan and share ideas and good deals with each other easily.

They pack up their bags (with some tips and tricks from the Wanderer app) and fly off to Italy.

In Rome, they use the Wanderer app to look up recommended restaurants nearby when they get hungry.

Karina expresses her desire to see some historical sites. They look at historical sites in the activities section. They see that the Colosseum is close to where they are now.

Karina and Sarah go to the Colosseum and have a great time. It’s all thanks to the Wanderer app!

Prototyping

Prototypes & Testing

Performing a Competitor Analysis allowed me to create a basic idea for the layout and User Flow for this app. First, I tested this design with rough sketches, and used the feedback from those tests in designing the digital wireframes. Since this project was my first time using Figma, it was definitely a learning curve but ultimately a very rewarding experience. The next step in this process was to obtain feedback on my wireframes through Guerilla Testing and process that feedback in the form of a Priority Matrix. After that, I iterated on my original wireframes by making some minor changes to the navigation bar and icons used. For this first project, we were only required to iterate our prototype as far as the Mid-Fi level. Ultimately, I hope to further expand upon this project in the future and I plan to iterate this case study as far as the Hi-Fi level.
